Story
Ribafreixo Wines has been designing Herdade do Moinho Branco, at the gateway to the town of Vidigueira, since 2007. Its 282 acres are the result of a collection of abandoned agricultural plots from the region’s declining population and reduced agricultural profits. The name Moinho Branco, or “White Mill”, preserves the building’s original name among local residents who, in bygone days, used the nearby stream to mill the grains they produced.
Vineyard
Ribafreixo Wine’s 114 hectares of vineyards are part of the Vidigueira Sub-region. The closeness (8kms) to the Alqueva dam – which created a 100 square mile lake and almost 700 miles of shore, making it Europe’s largest artificial lake – enables them to use a Drip Irrigation watering system fed by the Alvito/Pisão subsidiary dam. They take pride in their 100% integrated production, an ‘alternative’ approach halfway between traditional and biological farming.
This blend has grapes planted in the Vidigueira microclimate. (Mediterranean climate with strong atlanticity as well as a continental infuence in Spring-Summer.)

Fermentation in stainless steel vats for a 30 dayperiod, followed by 2 to 3 months batonnage. 3 months of bottle staging.
