Story
M.Chapoutier began in 1808, and has since expanded into an internationally recognized domaine. As Marius, Michel Chapoutier’s great-grandfather, always said ‘A good wine is one that beckons us to take another sip’. It was Marius who put the Chapoutier name firmly on the Rhône Valley map in the early 20th century and established its reputation for quality as far afield as America.
Vineyard
Brown soils and colluvium derived from metamorphosed granite (leptynites) with a varying amount of pebbles, from the Primary Era.
Vinification
The grapes are fully de-stemmed. Maceration lasts 4 weeks in concrete tanks with regular pumping over to ensure gentle extraction. The alcoholic and malolactic fermentations are carried out in barrel using native flor. The wine is then aged in oak barrels which have already been used for several wines.
Tasting Notes
Deep ruby with crimson highlights in the glass. The nose is of black fruit and spice with hints of pepper and gerns. The palate is fresh on entry, with velvety tannins. The array of aromas includes sour liquorice, black fruit and soot. Long lasting and fresh finish.
Food Pairing
Perfect with suckling pig chops with Charcutière sauce.
