Story
The Château de Parnay is a flagship estate of the AOC Saumur Champigny. The property is located along the Loire River, classified as UNESCO World Heritage. In 2006, this esteemed property was acquired by Regis Vincenot and Mathias Levron who transformed the land into a jewel of the Loire Valley, as well and becoming Certified Organic since 2013.
Mathias’ Philosophy is as such: « Good grapes for good wine. We have focused on organic wine process and sustainable farming. To achieve our goals we must watch our vines closely and we must make careful and precise selection of our plants».
Vineyard
Located in Saumur. These grapes are planted on Clay-Limestone soils, are considered Old Vines.
Vinification
Manual harvest. 3 days of pre-fermentation cold maceration at 15°C, with 20 days gentle extraction & maceration.
Tasting Notes
The colour is intense red. The nose, superb notes of very ripe red fruits, associated with the freshness from the terroir (mint, spices...) forms a very harmonious whole. The mouth is subtle, silky and very balanced, revealing great quality of the grapes. The aftertaste is exceptionally long and gives a good potential for ageing.
Food Pairing
The Saumur Champigny “Clos du Château” will be a marvellous match with: charcuteries, grilled white or red meats and fine French cheese.
Serving Temperature : 16-18°C
