In 1868 Docteur Guyot, who helped shape modern scientif approaches to French viticulture, stated that “Limoux wines should figure among the list of good red wines”. From this same belief, Cave Anne de Joyeuse was founded in 1929 to vinify said red wines. Over time, winegrowers and consumers alike have realised the expetional quality of this terroir.
The vineyard is located at the foothills of the Pyrenees Mountains. The highest expression of a vineyard in altitude. In Limoux, more precisely in the Upper Valley, the climate is composed of cool air, and red clay soils rich in iron from the Cretaceous period on a base of crushed limestone. The drastic temperature fluctuations between day and night are perfect for the production of polyphenols and antioxidants.
The grapes are hand-picked, followed a temperature controlled fermentation in tank for 8 days. The gentle extraction techniques allow them to obtain a well balanced phenolic and tannic structure. The wine is aged for 6 months in French Oak Barrels.
Intense purple and ruby color, blackberry and violet notes on the nose. Fruity in the mouth with soft tannins and flavors of ripe black fruits, vanilla, cocoa and plum. This wine is well balanced with a long finish.
Ideal with steaks and barbecued meats. It also matchs nicely with Osso Bucco and sophisticated meat dishes. We suggest to keep a sip for some black chocolate.
