Story
In 1868 Docteur Guyot, who helped shape modern scientif approaches to French viticulture, stated that “Limoux wines should figure among the list of good red wines”. From this same belief, Cave Anne de Joyeuse was founded in 1929 to vinify said red wines. Over time, winegrowers and consumers alike have realised the expetional quality of this terroir.
Vineyard
The vineyard is located at the foothills of the Pyrenees Mountains. The highest expression of a vineyard in altitude. In Limoux, more precisely in the Upper Valley, the climate is composed of cool air, and red clay soils rich in iron from the Cretaceous period on a base of crushed limestone. The drastic temperature fluctuations between day and night are perfect for the production of polyphenols and antioxidants.
Vinification
The grapes are hand-picked, followed by a 30 day maceration and fermentation in temperature-controlled steel tanks. The wine is fermented in Vats for 8 days, followed by ageing in 50% stainless steel tanks, and 50% Oak Barrels (of which 1/3 are new).
Tasting Notes
Deep red tones with a violet hue, elegant on the nose with notes of red fruit. A full body wine with a wide range of black fruit and berries on the palate, with a long lasting finish.
Food Pairing
Perfect for classic dishes such as Cassoulet or Fricassée of Limoux, as well as with spicy foods.
