Story
Alex Gambal arrived to France in 1993 from the United States. Shortly after, he founded “Maison Alex Gambal” in 1997. It took a mere 20 years for the Domaine to build its astounding reputation in Burgundy, making it one of the region’s finest family-made wines.
Between Morey-Saint-Denis to the North and Vougeot to the South, the winegrowing area of Chambolle-Musigny stands at the end of an anticlinal valley, which has scattered its scree and colluvium for the delight of Pinot Noir. This grape variety is known here for producing the most “feminine” red wines of the Côte-de-Nuits. This small winegrowing area counts 2 Grands Crus and 24 Premiers Crus.
Vineyard
The climat “Aux Échanges” is located in the Northern part of the village. The vines are on average 50 years old, certified organic and south facing. The plot is composed of clay-limestone soils.
Vinification
The fruit is hand-picked, sorted and de-stemmed 100%. The vinification begins in small truncated, conical vats with a natural alcoholic fermentation. Regular cap management of of light punchdowns and pump-overs. After 14 days, the fruit is pressed off and the wine is moved to oak barrels via gravity flow, and matured in barrel for 17 months with malo-lactic fermentation.
Tasting Notes
This wine is a delicacy of Chambolle's Premiers Crus. With a vivid ruby hue and purple tins, it is intensely aromatic on the nose with aromas of red fruit and spices. The palate is delicate and elegant, with soft tannins that highlight the distinct fruity flavors of the wine.
Food Pairing
This wine paris well with Duck Confit, thai spiced curries or a classic Beef Bourgignon.
