Originating from Château de Laubade, the Lesgourgues vineyards represent an combination of five prestigious estates, from the Bas Armagnac to Madiran and from Bordeaux to the heart of the Graves. Le Bonnat estate was farmed by the team of Château de Fieuzal in Pessac‐Léognan from 1987 until 1997, untl it was taken over by the Lesgourgues family. Le Bonnat is located in the center of the Graves, near Saint‐Selve. Denis Lesgourgues is an art amateur and collecter, utlizing his contemporary pieces to decorate the Estate.
The vines are 30 to 40 years old, planted on stony, clay-gravel soils above a limestone bedrock. The plants are managed with the goal of limiting yields, and organic fertilizers are applied. Denis used cover crops (fava beans) on is vineyard in order to create a great warm ecosystem particularly important to maintain the soil structure of the Graves Terroir.
The grapes are macerated for 6-12 hours before cold racking. The sauvignon blanc grapes are vinified in stainless steel tanks, while the semillon is fermented in oak barrels. Only the semillon portion is aged in oak barrels for 8 months.
The wine has a pale yelow robe with green reflects. The nose is fragrant and complex, with hints of white fruit and acacia flower. The palate is rich, well rounded, with a hint of smoke. Brightness and acidity are portrayed through the sauvignon grapes,
This wine can be enjoyed as of today, and even decanted.Its a perfect wine to accompany grilled seafood, and cheeses.
