Portfolio - Loire Valley

Loire Valley Region

The Loire Valley is defined by the Loire River, France’s longest. It is one of France’s larger wine regions, with slightly more than 185,000 acres planted with vines, making it about 2/3 the size of Bordeaux.

The distinctive character of wines from the Loire Valley arises from their freshness and fruitiness. While perhaps not as famous as wines from Bordeaux, Burgundy or Alsace, the Loire wines we’ve chosen reflect a new generation of winemakers’ commitment to traditional winegrowing methods. These painstaking techniques involve more labor-intensive vineyard management, stricter selection of only the finest grapes, and careful stewardship of the land. The results can truly be tasted in each wine.

The Loire Valley contains 50 winemaking appellations, each with their own unique personality. In the United States the most familiar Loire appellation is probably Sancerre, which continues to set the world standard for Sauvignon Blanc winemaking.
