Bourgogne Region

If asked the light-hearted question, “If you could take just one wine with you to a desert island, what would it be?” many zealous wine lovers would answer instantly: “Burgundy!”

It’s not just that the best Burgundies are extraordinary wines, or that they taste phenomenally good (which they do). It’s that a great Burgundy embodies two things most other wines don’t: emotion and intrigue!

Burgundy’s winemakers focus primarily on two grape varieties: Pinot Noir for red wines and Chardonnay for white. Both grapes achieve their greatest elegance when planted in a relatively cool climate like that of Burgundy. When combined with the region’s geological diversity, the result is a stunning array of subtle yet compelling wines. Of all the world’s wine regions famed for red wine, Burgundy is the coolest and most northerly.

With so much variety in a single region, once could drink great Burgundy for eternity (perhaps on that desert island) and still never be bored. Of all France’s wine regions, Burgundy definitely has the most surprises up its sleeve!
