Portfolio - Beaujolais

Beaujolais Region

Beaujolais is a large and historically rich wine producing region, larger than any single district of Burgundy. It is located north of Lyon, and covers parts of the north of the Rhone and parts of the south of the Saone-et-Loire. There are over 50,000 acres of vines planted in a 34 mile stretch of land that is between 7 to 9 miles wide. The region is known internationally for its long tradition of winemaking. This little corner of France possesses exceptional terroir and, as history has proven, could only ever have become vinegrowing land.

The characteristic and exception of Beaujolais wines is that only one grape variety is used to make them all: Gamay Noir à Jus Blanc. Growing in the Beaujolais region since the beginning of 17th century, this variety has accompanied the region in the evolution of the vineyard and collective vinegrowing tradition. Nearly 70% of land planted with Gamay Noir à Jus Blanc throughout the world is in Beaujolais. This single grape variety feeds the creation of 12 appellations and 10 Crus.

Of these ten Crus, we offer a remarkable pair, the robust Brouilly and the tender Saint-Amour. They are characterised by their red fruit aromas and flavours of red currant and spice, intense length in the mouth that is unveiled once the wines have made the most of a few months maturing before bottling.
